E d and Bill Zacharias are not only brothers; they are business
partners. They established Capitol Oil & Service Company about 35 years ago beginning
with a small Shell service station at the corner of Brookland Park Boulevard and
Chamberlayne Avenue. They moved to 1306 Bellwood Road about 15 years ago.
Capitol is still run by the Zacharias family, but they've
added more members. Ed's sons (Billy and John) and Bill's sons (Mike and Ken) have joined
the business over the years.
Capitol Oil & Service Company has grown into a full
service business offering a complete line of heating, cooling and plumbing products and
services as well as duct cleaning. They also supply home heating oil along with propane
gas.
"We are commited to providing our customers with
quality products and services and we are very careful to hire competent employees,"
Bill says.
"We don't let just anybody work for us in the service
department," Ed adds. "We stress people skills along with knowledge and ability
to get a job done in the most efficient way. We have the patron's interest a heart. When
it comes to service, we are first class."
The founders of the company are just as close to their
customers today as they have always been. They want to keep communication open with their
customers.
"Ed and I are still active in this business on a
day-to-day basis," Bill says. Our customers can still talk directly to the
owners."
